About

Rachel Rodrigues is a British Indian artist, who was born and grew up in North London. Alongside her art practice, she is completing her doctoral research in psychology with a focus on mental health.

Her paintings offer a commentary on the mind, using both a biographical and psychological framework, addressing what we can make sense of psychologically but also what we can’t put into words; the feelings we can’t quite place, our unconscious, automatic thought patterns and behaviours. Much of her work delves into her own mental health, and the impact of everyday experiences, family dynamics and childhood memories.

Saturated, flat plains of colour dramatise and intensify her scenes, distancing them from reality. While the compositional placement of her subjects, whether trees, shadows, buildings, faces or figures - how they may or may not be interacting - all give clues into her own and others’ private thoughts and emotions.
